After Aerlie Gardens on Thursday, our plan was to go out on a river tour on Friday - but unfortunately that didn't happen. The weather on Thursday night and Friday morning was very rainy and very windy. Even if that hadn't happened, when we got to the place, they had a sign up saying they were closed for the remainder of February.
The skies actually did start to clear a little right about then (and ultimately it became an absolutely beautiful day). So instead, we just walked. All along the riverwalk area. I don't know how far, but we were out there for several hours (including a stop for a late lunch before we turned around to head back to the car. she-crab soup and salad - yummy!}. I really love walking, especially if there is nature around for me to look at.
And we also stopped at the Cotton Exchange building, which is now full of small shops and so on. They still have some spots that look like 'the old days'.
I had such a great time on this visit with Roger. I have known him for quite a while (through another friend) but got to know him a lot better over the last few days. We don't agree on everything (thank goodness!), but he's easy to talk to. It was great to meet the woman he is seeing; they seem like a really good match.
I left yesterday, making my way to Knightdale (NC) to see my cousin Robin - who I haven't seen, or even spoken to for more than a few minutes here or there, in years. We had a great time catching up. Robin said, as I was leaving "I was a little nervous about the visit, because I wasn't sure about whether we would have anything to talk about after all of this time.". That ended up being a completely unfounded worry. We had so much to talk about we couldn't stop talking! Really fun.
Today I started toward Arlington, VA and the DC area - but I'm just meandering. Staying off highways and just winding my way through small towns. I'm enjoying the fact that I haven't planned to get to my next stop until tomorrow, even though I could have been there today. As much as I love spending time with people, sometimes I need time by myself in order to recharge. Today's that day.
But tomorrow will be here soon, and I have places to go and people to see.
