On the Road Again ...

This year, the Mensa Foundation Colloquium was being held July 2nd in Kansas City, with the Mensa Annual Gathering (AG) following from July 3rd to 7th. I had also committed to attending the Dabrowski Congress in Denver the following weekend. I thought about flying from NH (or Boston) to KC and back, and then just a few days later, flying from NH (or Boston) to Denver. That just seemed silly, when I could the two trips as an excuse for another roadtrip!

I left for the journey to Kansas City on Friday, June 28th. I had decided (as much as I do decide things in advance on these trips) to try to visit Cuyahoga Valley National Park on this portion of the trip. I drove as far as Erie, Pennsylvania on Friday, approximately 1 hour 45 minutes east of Cuyahoga. Myplan was to get up early, go do some hiking on Saturday morning, and then continue the trip in the early afternoon. I brought my cooler, suitcase (but NOT my laptop bag) into the hotel, had something to eat, caught up on some emails, etc. - you know, all the usual things.

In the middle of the night, I hear the rain. And thunder, And lightning. When I woke up early Saturday morning it was pouring, And it kept pouring all day. So I hunkered down in the hotel room, eventually going out to my car to get my laptop so I could do some things. Sunday morning, it wasn't raining when I got up, so. I headed to Cuyahoga to start what I had intended the day before. The ground was kind of wet, and it was kind of grey. I did manage to get in a short hike before Mother Nature decided we needed more rain.

Next stop, St, Louis, where I had decided to spend Sunday night. I arrived in town mid-afternoon, checked in to my hotel and then headed over to Tower Grove Park (and Arboretum).

Monday is to be my arrival day in Kansas City. Stay tuned!
