As I usually do, I spent two weeks at the end of September/beginning of October in central Vermont this year. Slightly north of Sugarbush, south of Stow, southeast of Burlington ... in the middle of the Mad River Valley.
Usually this is prime foliage time, but not so much this time. The often cool and very wet summer has delayed the leaves turning. Overall, the weather wasn't awful, but it also wasn't as typically fall as it often is.
My cousins Bob & Catherine joined me for most of the week as well. This has become our practice over the last few years, and I love having them there. We talk (a LOT), go for walks/hikes, work on a jigsaw puzzle, mostly cook our own meals, and take a traditional day trip up to Burlington to wander around Church Street Marketplace and head over to take some pictures overlooking Lake Champlain.
Here are a few longer distance views. You can see that the color wasn't the best at this point in time - but there were a few trees and bushes that were harbingers of more color still to manifest.
A few selected pictures from our day in Burlington. It was a very windy day, and the cloud formations and movements were stunning (and ever-changing).
Pictures from our various walks/hikes: in the woods, by the Mad River, finding a companion along the way.
And finally, right along Route 100 in central VT, a swiftly moving river and a cascading waterfall.
