My flight arrived in Cairns about 2:00pm, and I was checked into my hotel, Crystalbrook Bailey, by about 3:00pm. It's a beautiful hotel, only a couple of blocks from the ocean. And it has some of the best reception staff I have experienced. I love that it's very environmentally responsible in the way it does business. Room keys are discs of recycled wood. Real paintings on the walls. No plastic water bottles - only glass. No plastic cups, only glass. All kind of touches like this throughout the hotel.
I stopped at reception to ask where I could find batteries; they pulled out a box of batteries and gave me what I needed. I asked if they had a business center so that I could print a few pages (my absentee ballot since I'm not going to be home until after the election) and the gentleman at reception said "Just email them to me and I will print them out for you." I headed downstairs about 10 minutes later to let them know I had sent the email, and they said "Oh, they are already printed for you!".
After unpacking I just went for a walk over to the water and along the Cairns Esplanade Boardwalk.
I wandering for a while, I realized I was hungry and found a restaurant looking out at the water (Copper Grill & Bar). They had lamb ribs. This is only the second time I have ever seen them ... why didn't I know this was a thing?!?!? They are so good!
Tomorrow is my tour to the Great Barrier Reef. Can't wait!
